An abstraction of a warm Santa Fe day is where this piece landed. I started thinking about Monterey kelp beds when I began, but the fact that I live in Santa Fe has an influence. I start from images I recall of the ocean or lakes from California and Minnesota. I let the work take me where it wants—and I get uplifting results. It is something I can’t predict or control—it just happens spontaneously.
