LIQUID LIGHT PAINTING BY MARK LANDKAMER
I would never have expected this painting to end up in a kind of Purple Haze moment. I see a night scene back in the 80s when South of Market was gritty and it is foggy, misty. We went to the Eagle or the End Up. Headlights reflected on the slick Folsom Street asphalt. I can hear the traffic, the honking horns, and guys laughing. I remembered a lot of oily darkness but this painting didn’t turn out black or bleak. If purple signifies regal, then we were all regals back then. And we still are.
