LIQUID LIGHT PAINTINGS BY MARK LANDKAMER.
LAYERING OVER THE OLD, ILLUMINATING THE NEW.
QUADRATIC SERIES—PAINTING WITH LIQUID LIGHT
My Quadratic Series came out of a spur-of-the-moment experiment as I started blending “strokes of light” and examining the rich glow and color shifts I was creating. On the bright screen of the iPad Pro, I create with liquid light. It is something new. I feel I have jumped into a new world with both feet and it has enveloped me. I have surrendered to its gravitational pull. My Quadratic Series embodies that in such a huge way. I felt I had turned a corner into a new world the day I hit on this. That “discovery” part of being an artist is why I do what I do. The exploration is so unknown and so fulfilling.
“I have been following Mark’s creative journey for over a year now – his work never ceases to amaze me as he continues to evolve. I have two pieces from one series and the colors blend perfectly with the decor of the room they grace.” —Heather / Santa Fe
SHOP VERTICALITY SERIES
GESTURE JOURNALING PAINTINGS BY MARK LANDKAMER.
BOUNDLESS EXPRESSIONISM. MOVING ON UP.
VERTICALITY SERIES—PURE GESTURALISM
My Verticality Series uses exuberant painted gestures and various drawing and scribing tools to create a sense of upward movement, a breaking away. These gesturalist works represent a new chapter for me in the form of a combination painting /drawing that incorporates vertical script letterforms. These works are vigorous or subtle depending on my frame-of-mind.
“The first time I saw Mark’s work, I was immediately drawn to interplay between color, texture, design, and emotion. I experience his art as both language and dance.” — Debbie / Santa Fe
SHOP AVENIDA SERIES
ABSTRACT KELP BED PAINTINGS BY MARK LANDKAMER.
COLORIST EXPLORATION OF NATURE’S EMOTION, DEPTH, AND ENERGY.
AVENIDA SERIES—UNDERWATER / OVERWATER THEME RETURNS
Although I started the Avenida Series from a pure, non-objective, and experimental standpoint using elliptical movement to establish an abstract painting vocabulary, these triptychs evoked the undulating kelp beds of the Monterey coast of California for me. Maybe because I grew up in Minnesota, land of 10,000 lakes, themes of water or of being underwater show up occasionally in my work. What I particularly like about this series, and working electronically, is how I can bring a color into the physical iPad frame from outside it and blend paint in new and unexpected ways. Wearing the hat of an experimentalist is so much a part of what I enjoy about this medium and it makes me feel like a kid again splashing in uncharted waters—pun intended.
“Working with Mark has been an immensely rewarding partnership marked by collaboration — from picking the ideal piece, to matting, framing and hanging.” — Howard / Santa Fe
